No #NaNo but I #amoutlining

It’s that time of year again. November is the time where I get most guilty about not having produced or published any quality work and say I’m going to do NaNoWrimo in order to offset that guilt start of National Novel Writing Month. After all the hoopla I put on NaNo in my blog post last year, surely I’d be biting down on the bit and raring to go this year, right?

No, the above video had nothing to do with why I’m not doing NaNo this year, even though she does have some valid points. Still, I’m not about that “hanging out in ALL of the countries, possibly without a laptop” lifestyle [1].

After careful consideration of my priorities (and perhaps more accurately the amount of free time that I possess), I have come to the heart-wrenching conclusion that I won’t be participating. Here are those reasons in more detail:

1.) I just got married, plus I’m a student. This means I need to use my time more creatively in order to balance the demands of wife, school and dog (But to take a cue from Alton, that’s another post).

2.) I’m already working on a novel, and I have quite a few thousand words invested in it.

3.) Did you skip over that link in “priorities”? I think you may have. If not, hit it one more time for me.

Now don’t get me wrong, a small portion of my soul pangs for the acceptance of other writers during this time (and the nifty stress  management techniques that invariably pop up in the month of November), but NaNo is just not gonna fly around here this year.

So, If I’m not doing NaNo, what am I doing?

Well, that’s another post (hint: it has something to do with outlines).

Question: Are you doing NaNoWriMo this year? If so, are you going to register? I’d love to hear about your progress and techniques!

[1] See here, my non “urban” friends.

    • That’s what I’m hearing more and more, that people’s schedules are not really allowing them to dedicate time to pumping out 1,667 words per day. I have a thousand word per day goal right now, and I’m forcing myself to hit that, an extra 667 words would be asking a lot.

Thanks for stopping by! Do you mind if I follow you on twitter?
